Flood & Peterson Receives Two Honors

June 19, 2007

Greeley, Colo.-based Flood & Peterson Insurance has received two honors: one recognizing the company’s approach in working with clients and another paying posthumous tribute to its two founders, who pooled $190 nearly 68 years ago to launch the company.

For the first honor, the independent insurance broker was selected to become a member of the Sitkins 100. The Sitkins Group Inc. is a national organization that awards The Sitkins 100 membership status to 100 insurance firms across the United States based on their sales and operating philosophies, and the opportunity to develop into agencies that offer broader, more ongoing customer-centric insurance and risk-management services.

Larry Linne, president of The Sitkins Group, said, “Too often, firms have episodic relationships with customers. They may meet with a client once a year for an annual insurance review, or respond to a crisis.” Flood & Peterson, he said, has habits that create “long-term and fruitful relationships with clients.”

For the second award, the 2006 Bravo! Entrepreneur Lifetime Achievement Award recognized company founders B.D. “Pete” Peterson and J. Barney Flood. The men founded the company in 1939 in a small Greeley office where they shared a desk and chair, used a borrowed typewriter and kept cash in an old cigar box. Today, the employee-owned company has 120 staff members that serve organizations and individuals nationwide.
