Re: Start off P/T or just quit day gig and do it?
I've been in the L&H/P&C/Securities business for over 20 years and I would say, don't quit your day job. It is a sad statistic but 85% will not make it past their first 6 months. Who knows if you'll be the 15% that make it. You will need an income stream while you build a clientele. If you h...

DO you want in this pool
Last week I made a post about using a truck as a contractor and insuring it under a personal policy. Other posts described how there are some companies that will place these vehicles in the private passenger pool. I made a call to one of those companies and asked this question, "you will insure...

Re: IIABA's Virtual University VUpoint Newsletter - Vol. 8
Exactly the reason that I mentioned before about the E&O exposure. There are a lot of people out there grasping at powers / rights that are not theirs. Just because we are going about "business as usual" or that's how the rest do it, doesn't mean you aren't setting yourself up for a pr...

Very good that the issue has finally been addressed. http://www.contractormag.com/articles/column.cfm?columnid=483 The Big I just published a 53 page paper on the subject of certs and related items (Additional Insureds) The cost is $75.00 and is well worth it! Bottom line....certs do not convey conv...

Client issues own certs
I guess the issuing of COI's should never be considered pro or con? BTW, yesterday I found out from the brokerage I go through, that the insurance company forbids any adding of an AI on a COI without their prior knowledge. I once had a client that was issuing COI's out of her office. She was taking ...

Re: Fire damage
You are correct about covering the area you rent or lease. You better care about that space when you are covering a client. Help keep our E&O rates down. Maybe I am not as smart as everyone else, but if there is a fire, the salon is covered for BPP and Business Income. Her carrier pays her. She ...

I should have started off saying that the account is brokered. :D 95% of the things I do are brokered. That's why I am so persistant on not stepping outside of my authority. Due to the Real Estate persons prodding another broker may have issued a cert. How easy to step into the deep, deep, do-do. Ah...

That may be true but this guy sent me enough verbiage of how they want it, to fill an entire full sheet of paper. This is brokered business, no direct contract with the company, I'm not stepping into a deep dish of do-do. It is a new landlord that has bought the property. I am not going to make any ...

Sending a COI with AI status
Call me silly but I don't send out a COI with showing an AI status until the AI has actually been added. I have a restaurant owner that is leasing a property that just changed ownership. The new Real Estate management company e-mailed me requesting AI status be given to them. I called the Real Estat...

PAP yes you are right on spot. I got started on a thread and didn't stop. I've only jumped back into P/L to make a few sales. On 10/29/2006, ten minutes before my wife's office closed for the New Years Eve weekend, the HR person came in and told her to clean out her desk, her job no longer exists. A...

Cross your I and dot your t
Fourteen (probably more) years ago I had a client that burned a large building and houses across the street. It was multi-million dollar claim, in fact it was at the time, the largest fire my city ever had. It took seven years of court cases until the claim was settled. The insurance company lost th...

Why do I even ask the questions
Count on my toe, fingers, arms, etc how many times this happens. Someone asks for a HO/AU quote for their family. While taking information I ask about the occupation, vehicles, vehicle use, etc. The guy says, I am a self employed carpenter/contractor/re-modeler. I ask who is has the business auto on...
