You and I agree! Sadly the insurance business isn't what it was in 1982 when I started. Just like everything else in society, agents look for the quick hit, the quick sale, gotta make my numbers and the heck about the client. Within the next 3 months that agent is on to the next job leaving the unsu...

Well Erie is not my company, it is the company I am quoting against. I can't count how many times I see a commercial policy with a exceptionally low premium but with inadequate coverage. This morning I presented a quote for a personal line HO. The guy had over $11,000 in scheduled jewelry, dwelling ...

Fire Legal Liability
I'm talking with a guy that owns two restaurants. Both restaurants are located in leased spaces. He has a CGL issued through Erie insurance. There is no Fire Legal Liability mentioned but there is building coverage of $50,000. I would say that if this man's operations cause a fire, burns the buildin...

I started this thread to ilustrate a current event. Getting loss runs has never (before this one) been a problem. When I said the insured did call, I don't know why there was a response in CAPs? I was replying to another post. My usual method IS to get a signed request letter and then fax the reques...

The insured did request the runs. I don't like when an agent bends the truth. Loss runs DO NOT take 3 weeks. Uh, there's no way it takes 3 weeks. It must be a profitable account, because the agent will lie to avoid losing it. I doubt they'd give you the information directly, they'd want the insured ...

Three weeks for loss runs
Hm? I know of companies that get those loss runs out in several hours, a day or maybe several days. Last month I requested some from National Grange and they had them to me within the hour. Today I had someone that wanted me to quote their renewal liability policy. He is a carpenter / remodeling per...

I am not in CA, I am in PA. I have found that Cabinet makers / millwork, that install, have shops, install millwork / cabinets and sub some work aren't the easiest to place in PA. Most brokers I know have a very hard time with GC's. It's getting better for the GC market but it is still not fun. Etim...

Re: The "old way" is unprofitable
I've had computerized management systems long before Acord form were fillable. I used programs that could / would make them fillable. Six years ago (maybe more) I did away with any fax machines and all incoming and outgoing faxes are handled by computer. All records of sent received faxes are stored...

Non renewal of code 91583
I thought renewals were going too peaceful this year. Yesterday I received the renewal policy for a client and the Cabinetry and carpentry is on but code 91583 Contractors and subcontractors has been omitted. Ah the underwriter don't ya just love um? This is a $10,000 premium account and for years t...

How true ........ how true. There are more mom and pop artesian accounts than the $25,000 a year premium account. If you are doing $100 of work each year, for a $100 commission, I will say you are not making money. If someone is going through all the motions that some of the above posts stated, on t...

What brought this up was talking with someone that woks in my City's second largest agency. I can't mention the first largest because they are known nationally. Anyhow, over the past 10 years the second largest has bought out most smaller agencies in the area and who knows the volume they do. They t...

New Certs sent at renewal - how many do it
I know of one contractor that will request from 20 to 40 (or more) different certs a year. These certs are a non-chargeable event.
I was just wondering, at annual renewal, to all that received certs. the previous year, how many agents automatically send new certificates to those people.

Re: Erie insurance - why so competetive
Probably because many that read the forum seem to be in the western part of the country. Erie writes in 12 (or 14) States and is something like the 14th largest. Erie began in 1928 and they are consistantly the low premium. JD Powers gives them a thumbs up. Perhaps they save a hefty sum on the upper...

Erie insurance - why so competetive
I have always wondered how / why Erie insurance stays so competitive low on premiums. I was talking with an accountant at one of my bigger clients and she said they may be getting a quote from Erie for their commercial ins. Well I don't have access to Erie and that...oh no I'm gonna lose this one, c...
