I'm also a former Ohio Casualty agent in NJ, now Peerless. We've found the new company to have a much broader appetiete, and they are very aggressive from a pricing standpoint. If you are a high growth agency, I think you will benefit. I think the smaller agency just sitting on their book might have...

Ok, now what?

Im enjoying the debate here. Sanddog, as an agency owner, you are suggesting that one of the best ways to succeed in this business is to work for a big office, with ownership in your business, and only write larger commercial accounts over $50,000? My goal is to make $200,000-$250,000 in 5-7 years.

Own small agency or Producer at larger agency?

If you were a successful producer of commercial accounts would you rather own your own small agency with limited markets, staff, no value added services, etc, or work for a larger agency? BTW, the larger agency will give us ownership of our accounts, and a 35/65 split.
