Calculating retention

Currently I use the formula:

1- ((cancellations)/(renewals+rewrites+cancellations))= retention rate


Is this what you use?

Still no one has come forward and said that there is a real example of this being an E & O exposure. To me it is an urban insurance legend that no one has really questioned. With improved retention and a means to seperate yourself from the competition I see nothing except the benefit. In regards...
