In my career, the CPCU designation has served me well both as an underwriter and now as a broker. It is an excellent door opener to get invited to interview for an open position since this designation is well recognized within our industry. Absolutely! We run in to this situation often especially with surplus lines carriers since they are not restricted to filed rates. Underwriters are usually given underwriting "guidelines" not mandates to work within. Also, some underwriters are more conservative while others will take bigg...
