O you think your funny.... :D Funny is watching Rookies like you, chase crap business like Ambulance services and work comp for retirement homes and then the next day simi trucking. Find a market and develop it. Your chasing non-standard placements you know nothing about. Its rookies like you that give our industries a bad rap, do to lack of experience. Try Farmers
Its better to ask forgiveness then permission
(just do it)

The responses you get from this question are from other agents that do not know trucking. Do the right think and refer the account to an agent that specializes in this line of business.

Our agency does specialize in trucking (Great West appointed, several STR desiganations). We write over 100 trucking companies/fleets, from owner-operators to 1,000+ power units.

Sand and gravel can be VERY tough, but Acuity is by far the best standard market we have found for this type of risk. They will need clean MVRs on all drivers, some good loss control practices in place. It needs to be a very clean account, or you should head straight to surplus lines. Liberty has a trucking appetite, and the former Wausau unit could be a possibility, unless the insured requires filings.

While the previous poster was rude, he is right in that this is a very specialized risk. If they are required to have filings - which I doubt since they're probably short-haul/intrastate and perhaps exempt - then you need to have a carrier agree up-front.

You need to find an MGA who knows trucking. Most of the big ones have in-house experts. Beware the E&O exposure with these guys. More importantly, make sure it's direct bill or premium financed. Receivables will be a nightmare in most cases.

Call Drew at Robert Moreno Insurance Services - I've used him in the past, he has Empire and is an extremely knowledgeable transportation / trucking underwriter.
