Looking for $1,000,000 of contractors pollution for a mid-sized septic contractor. Fist of all is this a needed coverage as it is just human waste? Second, the only quotes I have obtained are in the $10,000 range. Unfortunantly the company I represent cannot offer this in the GL. Any suggestions?

Zurich is the best around. I'd go there first b/f entering the E/S market.

Try Beacon Hill, all they do is pollution, and they do it well. http://www.b-h-a.com

We just placed a Zurich Pollution policy and it is a surplus lines policy. We had to file a signed due diligence form stating the three admitted markets that declined it before going E&S.

General Casualty, part of QBI, offers a program for septic tank contractors. They have product enhancements for auto spills and equipment leaks. This is a successful program in Minesota, but it may be available in other states.

Your client definately should carry pollution liability. Does your quote for $10k include coverage for incidents while the waste in transit? I would think that would be the real exposure here. We would be able to help you out on this risk. Our wholesale brokerage does a lot of waste haulers and we certainly have a few markets that would take a look at the GL, Pollution, Auto, WC, and Umbrella. If you would like, please give me a call or shoot me an email to discuss further.

Some of the other industries we specialize in are Marine (including USL&H/MEL work comp), Construction, Environmental, Energy and hard to place Products Liability risks. Best of luck to you and I hope we can help you out on this opportunity.

Matt Foley
