Could anyone please offer advice on the benefits of a NAPSLO membership?
Aside from being surplus lines specific, is a NAPSLO membership really necessary if one already has a SILA membership? I would be using the membership primarily for compliance information and regulation updates; and for networking (although to a lesser degree).
Comments/suggestions are much appreciated. Thank you!

I love NAPSLO. It's a great organization. I'm not sure what SILA is (Do you mean SLA?) but if you are an E & S professional, you might want to join NAPSLO as well as AAMGA. Excellent for networking.
Try these sites and they will give you all the details:
http://www.napslo.org
http://www.aamga.org
As far as regulation updates, it is not necessary to join any to learn or comply. Your state DOI should direct you to sites where you could get info in all surplus lines laws and regulations incluidng SLA.

Thank you for the information.
SILA is Securities & Insurance Licensing Association. (My main duties are licensing and compliance.)
As for AAMGA, excellent resource! There have been times when I've seen an update posted on the AAMGA ticker before it was even available on the state site.
Dealing with the DOI is fine, but we hold non-resident licenses in every state except Hawaii, thus making it quite the ordeal to stay on top of so many possible reg changes. As you've probably experienced, some DOI sites are better maintained and more informative than others.
What I'm hoping for with NAPSLO is one-stop-shopping, so to speak. A singular surplus lines resource for all states would increase my efficiency ten-fold.
For the states having surplus lines associations, thank goodness! Most of them have been indispensable compliance tools. To anyone else dealing with multi-state surplus lines business, I feel your pain!
Thanks again for the NAPSLO recommendation. I will certainly give them a closer look and propose a membership at the next department meeting.
TGIF!!!
