Relocating with minimal P&C experience

Post by nvmal1177 »

I have been an underwriter for 7 years at the same company specializing in workers compensation. I am now wanting to relocate to New York and am concerned as I don't have any P&C experience. Any suggestions as to what may help me land a job quickly. Thanks.

Where are you currently living? I guess one of the big questions would be, why would you WANT to relocate to New York?

One suggestion if you wanted to switch to the agency side would be to look for a larger agency/brokerage that did a lot of workers comp. Oft times, having a former w/c underwriter on board can be an asset as you know the type of information the carrier needs, and the best way to put together a submission.

I couldn't tell from your post but do you do any WC in the state of New York currently? If not which states do you handle? I would suggest looking at a brokerage that does a lot of construction business as the comp tends to drive that client's needs.

Good luck.
