How do you mean the "ranking"? Is this a local agency or a national brokerage? There's no "ranking" system for insurance agencies like there is for insurance companies (i.e. A.M. Best).

Is this a local or regional agency, or a national/international agency like Marsh, Aon, USI, etc.?

It'd be difficult to determing the ranking of a local/regional. National/International is easy - Aon/Marsh trade first/second. Then it's Willis, AJ Gallagher, Lockton, USI and a few others.

Business insurance does an annual ranking of the top 100 agencies in the US. Check with them.

No can do a private agency big or small. Even the top 100 won't give much info.
Its better to ask forgiveness then permission
(just do it)

Maybe I can add some life to this thread"¦ While there is no rating system for agent quality there are qualities exceptional agents posses.

In my consulting projects for insurance buyers I annually work with well over 100 different agents from about 75 different agencies. There are qualities that I consistently find in good agents:

-Responsiveness - They return phone calls quickly, reply to emails, and respond to info requests...

-Proactive - They come to their clients with ideas and information. They start the renewal process early. They follow-up on outstanding issues.

-Students of Insurance - Good agents are constantly expanding their knowledge of insurance. They are working on CIC, CPCU, ARM, or other designations. They read coverage forms, FC&S, PF&M, etc.

-A Focus on Client Value - They have an attitude that focuses on what is valuable to the client.

-Challenge the Client - While client focus is important, good agents are not afraid to challenge the status quo. They push the client to take actions that are in the best interest of the client. They push me to consider alternatives.

-Special Expertise - Working with a specialist in an industry is a rare treat. I have also worked with agents who are generalists where the agency has people with special expertise who can step in to help.

-Access To Markets - An agent without the right markets is like trying to play golf without the right clubs. Results will be less than stellar.

-Quality Support - No agent can perform all the service a client requires. Quality CSRs are a must. I spend as much time checking out support staff as I do the agent on an account. CSR's should have all the above qualities plus an eye for detail.
