Contractors Liability -"No duty to defend"

I am working on a medium sized WRAP on a condo project. One of the markets quoting is a new program thru CVStarr. The pricing is very good, however, their coverage form is different in that they state "they do not have a duty to defend" and the insureds participate in the defense costs. Since you never know what type of claim you may have, it is a little scary to me to have such an unknown factor. Anybody have any experience or thoughts on these "no duty to defend" forms.
