CDI Announcement - Anthem Blue Cross Too Expensive

Post by meytai »

Hey guys..

I just got an e-mail from the CDI, which i'm certain most of you got.. i only have 6 years in the business.. i'm wondering.. is it right.. is it this dude's job.. to announce that a company is too expensive? This sort of pisses me off.. it's like someone in a position who has a medium to reach out to multiple people telling them that "Mey's Insurance Services is too expensive, shop around"

Is this right?!?!

Your opinions please

I did not get that email, but then again I do not have a Life license.

If it came from Poizner...can we say ELECTION Year ...and he is running for Gov!

I am an agent/broker with all licenses P & C and Benefits and I did get the email from Poizner. His office is a public office and he has an obligation to inform the public. I am also a Anthem Individual insured, so I appreciated the warning from him, because I haven't even heard about it yet from my carrier. The truth is the truth, so why make it political. Well it is in the political limelight - Health Insurance Reform - We see it every day of our Insurance business life. I guess you would then feel the same about Obama, cause he talked about this same rate increase in his interview with CBS on Super Bowl Sunday! Do the right thing for your insured's and yourself, if you are insured under this program, and make sure you provide them the best possible product for the best possible pricing available. There ar many markets competing for business even with the potential of Health Care Reform!

NEWS STATEMENT

INSURANCE COMMISSIONER POIZNER CALLS ANTHEM BLUE
CROSS HEALTH INSURANCE RATE HIKES ALARMING
Reminds Californians to Shop Around, Compare Health Insurance Options

California Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner today issued the following statement regarding Anthem Blue Shield’s rate increases:
“I’m alarmed by the Anthem Blue Cross health insurance rate hikes, especially in a time when the recession has forced so many people into the individual health insurance market,” said Commissioner Poizner. “State law requires that insurers spend at least 70 cents of every dollar of premium on medical care. I have instructed my department to hire an outside actuary to examine their rates line by line to ensure they are complying with this state law. If we find that their rates are excessive, I will use the full power of my office to bring these rates down.
Commissioner Poizner also reminded Californians who have to purchase individual health insurance that there are dozens of insurance companies to choose from.
“Just like auto and homeowners insurance, consumers can choose from nearly 70 different companies who offer health insurance in the individual health insurance market,” Commissioner Poizner said. “As a consumer you need to shop around. A different provider may prove to be a better value for a particular individual or family’s needs, and all of them are looking for new customers. I encourage consumers who are not happy with their rates, co-pays, benefits or service to look at other options.”
The Department of Insurance Web site has comprehensive lists of insurance companies that offer health insurance along with contact information. The information can be found at http://www.insurance.ca.gov/0100-consum ... rriers.cfm
In addition, the Department of Insurance launched last year the first ever PPO report card that gives consumers even more information about the quality of service each of the major health insurance company offers. The PPO report card can be found at http://interactive.web.insurance.ca.gov/ppo/front
