risk managers - your experience

in my experience in dealing with and/or working with them, they seem to be incompetent, overpaid, lazy, and moronic. when a claim arises, instead of defending the insured, they instead spend time defending themselves, but make it seem like they are trying to defend the insured against the claim. i am pretty sure this due to their lack thereof actual risk management and a guilty conscience. is this why they are slowly being weeded out of the industry?

what are your experiences with risk managers? are there any actual good risk managers out there? if so, i would like to commend you. please share your story.

i should be a bit more specific here and say a risk manager as part of a brokerage firm.

of course, feel free to share any experiences in any arena of risk managers.
