The recent report found on www.ltcoptions.com says that 70% of Americans 65 and above will require long term care. This only shows that everyone is at risk of needing this type of care. Even if you're healthy right now, there's no guarantee that your health will still be in the same state in the future. It is advisable to purchase long term care insurance while you're in your 50's because of lower rates. If you are on a budget and you think you need this type of coverage, then it's recommended to purchase this while you're still younger and healthier.

When deciding on the time that is right for you to buy long term care insurance remember that your age will impact discounts and declines. The younger and healthier you are, the more you will reduce the cost of long term care insurance. However, if you have an existing health condition, you will have to pay more. Long term planning should start in your 50s because for most people, their health changes when they reach 50s.
