Looking for an insurance company and/or MGA that will write GL/Umbrella coverage for sub-contractors that work on bridges. This sub-contractor will be doing work in South Carolina.

Try American Empire Underwriters, I use the Houston office at 713-771-9800. This is company owned facility using American Empire paper which is VIII. Also Southern Risk Specialist which is Lexington, A XV. Both are capable of primary and umbrella.
Good Luck!
Dave Lipsey

Until 9/01, when we lost the account due to issues other than an insuring facility, we insured a contractor who removed paint from, and then repainted, bridges. We wrote the GL and umbrella with Scottsdale (through Crump Ins. Serv. here in Houston) for about 3 yrs. prior to losing the contractor's account. However, with the shakeup in the market over the last year, I do not know if Scottsdale is still a market for this type of risk, or if they are available in SC.
