Compensation Overview

The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What Is the Opportunity?

The Employee Services Unit (ESU) is a global HR Shared Services center that provides customer support, program design and operational excellence across a diverse spectrum of HR domains: Benefits, Contact Center, Leave of Absence, Learning, Onboarding, Payroll, Staffing, Talent Management, Work Arrangement, and Workforce Data Management. The ESU is a foundational component of the Travelers HR operating model supporting the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland and various subsidiaries.

As a part of the Payroll team, the Specialist, HR Operations, applies understanding and knowledge of Travelers payroll related policies, procedures and payroll system and utilizes them to ensure that employees are paid accurately and in a timely manner. The duties for this job can include: understanding the concept of confidentiality, entering employee payroll data with attention to detail, and calculating wages and withholdings to ensure the final pay checks are correct. Researches and resolves employee payroll questions and pay check issues that arise. Assists with training incoming payroll associates when needed. Keeps current procedures up to date.

  • Independently supports complex data entry/cases and review into HR technology; identifies the impact of changes within COE.
  • Provides high quality customer service by taking action to meet customer needs in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Seeks to increase customer satisfaction; establishes and maintains effective relationships with customers; builds trust.
  • Monitors trends and proactively seeks ways to improve processes to enhance quality, efficiency, and customer experience.
  • Identifies process improvement opportunities.
  • Participates in routine projects as a subject matter expert. May participate in more complex projects.
  • May provide guidance and training to associates and representatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or related preferred.

  • 3 years of HR or equivalent customer service experience preferred.

  • Has a strong understanding of one or more HR Operational focus areas, such as payroll, benefits or staffing, or considered a growing subject matter expert in one focus area.

  • Strong experience with Workday preferred.

  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook preferred.

  • Customer service oriented, verbal and written communication skills, results driven, excellent organization, and prioritization skills.

  • Strong attention to detail.


What is a Must Have?

  • High school degree or equivalent required.

  • A minimum of 1 year of HR or equivalent experience required.
