HIA, Builders Workers’ Comp Group

Hotchkiss Insurance Agency Inc. launched a new workers’ comp purchasing group: Texas Home Builders Workers’ Compensation Group (THB-WC Group).

The group includes homebuilders for whom specific protective legislation was established in 1991. The legislation specifies that in Texas, a homebuilder may provide workers’ comp and employers’ liability insurance for their employees without becoming unduly responsible for workers’ comp coverage for subcontractors or employees of subcontractors.

Hotchkiss Insurance Agency serves as administrator of the new THB-WC Purchasing Group, which is underwritten by Texas Mutual Insurance Company. All eligible policyholders accepted into the group receive an immediate premium discount of 10.5 percent. A comprehensive safety manual designed by a HIA risk manager specifically for the homebuilding industry is delivered to every policyholder in the THB-WC Purchasing Group.

Grocers Insurance, a member of San Antonio-based Argonaut Group Inc., received an endorsement from IGA Inc. as the preferred national property and casualty insurance market for IGA member stores.

With 1300 IGA stores in the U. S., this endorsement provides Grocers with an opportunity to expand its nationwide presence and generate new business through its appointed agency base, the company said.

IGA selected Grocers Insurance as its endorsed carrier based on Grocers’ 35-year record of service to grocery retailers, its industry-specific services and resources, and its national network of agents who specialize in handling grocery clientele. Grocers offers enhanced products tailored to the risks of its select customer base, such as Hepatitis A coverage, higher crime coverage for weekends, and coverage for equipment breakdown and disruption of utility services.
