Arthur J. Gallagher, Lemac & Associates

Itasca, Ill.-based Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. announced that its subsidiary, Risk Placement Services Inc., acquired Lemac & Associates Inc., headquartered in Los Angeles, Calif. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Established in 1984, Lemac & Associates is a wholesale insurance broker and managing general agent. They provide excess and surplus property/casualty coverages including professional and general liability, workers’ compensation and other specialty insurance products and services for their retail insurance agent clients throughout the United States. Lemac will continue to operate out of their current locations in Los Angeles and Orange, Calif. under the direction of Joel Cavaness, president of Risk Placement Services.

Arthur J. Gallagher & Co., an international insurance brokerage and risk management services firm, is headquartered in Itasca, Ill., and has operations in seven countries and does business a network of brokers and consultants.

Minn. Western National, Farmers Home Group

Western National Insurance Group, based in Edina, Minn., met all regulatory and legal steps to finalize the affiliation with Farmers Home Group of Bloomington, Minn.

Farmers Home companies will continue to operate as separate entities in their personal lines niche, under the joint management and control of Western National, whose senior management now occupy all board and senior officer positions for Farmers Home.

A.M. Best has announced that the companies of the former Farmers Home Group (Farmers Home Mutual Insurance Company, Western Home Insurance Company and Pioneer Insurance Company) will all carry the “A”- (excellent) rating of the Western National Insurance Group.

The newly expanded Western National Insurance Group consists of five regional property and casualty insurance companies with direct written premium in excess of $240 million and total assets of $450 million.

Western National Mutual Insurance Company writes personal and commercial lines in Minnesota, Wiscsonsin, South Dakota, North Dakota and Iowa. Western National Assurance Company writes the same types of business in Washington and Oregon. Farmers Home, Western Home and Pioneer are currently headquartered in Bloomington, Minn., and write personal lines in Minnesota, Washington, Nevada and Utah. All companies distribute their insurance products via the independent agency system.

Strategic Independent Agents Alliance

Strategic Independent Agents Alliance (SIAA) announces that The Powers Group Inc. of Clayton, Mo., has established Valley Insur-ance Agency Alliance as a SIAA Master Agency. Their exclusive territory covers several counties in central and southern Missouri, including the St. Louis area, and in southern Illinois.

The Powers Group has been in business for 15 years providing independent insurance agency products and financial counsel to their clients. The Powers Group represents several SIAA Strategic Partner Companies including The Hartford, Travelers, Safeco, Liberty Agency Markets, Zurich and St. Paul Travelers. These markets will be offered to Valley Insurance Agency Alliance’s network agencies.
