Hub International, Farr Insurance

Insurance broker Hub International Limited has acquired the assets of Farr Insurance Group, a Venice, Florida-based insurance brokerage firm. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

The company said Farr operations will become a part of Hub International Northeast Limited and principals Latimer and Cindy Farr will join Hub. The Farr team will continue to operate out of their locations in Venice and Sarasota, Florida.

Farr works with 10,000 clients in Florida, with a large concentration in Sarasota County. It offers personal and commercial lines policies.

Wilson Smith, Greenwich Transport

Wilson Smith Group, LLC said it has acquired a majority of the outstanding shares of the Nashville, Tenn.-based managing general agency, Greenwich Transportation Underwriters, Inc.

Terms were not disclosed.

Greenwich Transportation Underwriters is led by Ben Armistead, chairman and Ward Stein, president. Both executives have agreed to remain with GTU and each will retain a significant percentage of stock.

Mark M. Smith, the current president and managing member of Wilson Smith Group will become chief executive officer and chairman of the board. Ward Stein will retain his role as president and chief operating officer and Ben Armistead will serve as executive vice president and vice chairman.

Wilson Smith Group, LLC , established in 2009, is a national managing general and underwriting agency of specialty products and programs with locations in New York, Tennessee and Texas. Headquartered in New York, the firm is led by Mark Smith, a 34 year veteran of the wholesale marketplace. Smith is former president and CEO of the Stewart Smith Group and, most recently, was president of AmWINS Brokerage.

Marsh, Strategic Benefit Solutions

Marsh & McLennan Agency LLC reports it has acquired Strategic Benefit Solutions, Inc. (SBS), a $4 million benefits brokerage and consulting firm based in Alpharetta, Georgia. Terms were not disclosed.

SBS will operate within the Rutherfoord division of MMA, expanding Rutherfoord’s Atlanta market position and adding to its employee benefit capabilities. All of SBS’s leadership and employees will join MMA.

SBS offers employee benefit services to middle market clients, with an emphasis on health improvement and productivity initiatives.

Neace Lukens, Plamp-Keen Agency

Louisville, Kentucky-based Neace Lukens has acquired the Plamp-Keen Agency Inc., an insurance agency also in Louisville that specializes in horse-related coverages.

The merger adds 10 employees from Plamp-Keen, including chief executive officer, Chris Keen, to Neace Lukens’ staff. The agency will remain in its existing office space in Louisville.

Founded in 1927 by John Plamp Sr., the company had originally been named the Plamp Insurance Agency. In 1977, Chris Keen, a horse trainer, joined the founder’s son, John Plamp, Jr., to form the Plamp-Keen Agency. The agency’s offerings include equine mortality, liability coverage for riding clubs, farm owners’ policies, farm umbrella, general liability for trainers and instructors, care custody and control, and pleasure and show horse owners’ liability.

Marsh, RJF Agencies

Marsh & McLennan Agency LLC has acquired RJF Agencies Inc., one of the largest independent insurance agencies in the upper Midwest. Terms were not disclosed.

Founded in 1986, RJF has annual revenue of approximately $25 million and roughly 150 employees. All of RJF’s employees and leadership team, including Bill Jeatran, CEO, and Tim Fleming, president, will join MMA.

RJF will serve as MMA’s upper Midwest hub and is the latest in a number of acquisitions MMA has made since beginning a national expansion in 2009.
