BIA, Iroquois

Business Insurance Associates (BIA) of Davidsonville, Md., has joined The Iroquois Group. BIA started in 2000 as an employee benefits agency. Agency Principal Ed Coogan expanded the agency into property and casualty insurance.

PMA

PMA Companies, a Pennsylvania-based provider of commercial insurance risk management solutions and TPA claims and risk services, has opened an office in Schaumburg, Ill., and is offering property and casualty insurance and TPA services to employers throughout the state.

The Illinois expansion is part of PMA’s strategic growth strategy, which included expansion into five new states in 2010. PMA will be expanding its broker/agency distribution network as the company intensifies its marketing initiatives in Illinois.

Jeff Swaney, senior vice president, Central Region, is leading the company’s Illinois operations.

Hub, Mark Tauber

Chicago-based Hub International Ltd. has acquired the assets Mark Tauber Insurance Brokerage Inc., a Brooklyn, New York-based commercial insurance brokerage firm.

Terms of the acquisitions were not disclosed.

The employees of Tauber Brokerage will become part of the Hub International Northeast Ltd (Hub Northeast) team in Brooklyn. Mark Tauber, president of Tauber Brokerage, will join Hub Northeast as part of the acquisition, reporting to Senior Vice President Lon Grayson.

Founded in 1989, Tauber Brokerage handles the property/casualty programs for many small to mid-sized businesses throughout the five boroughs of Manhattan and the greater New York metropolitan area, serving a large concentration of clients in the real estate, general construction and volunteer fire and ambulance service industries.

SIAA

Donald L. Houck Agency Inc. of Buffalo, N.Y. and Vaillancourt Insurance of Old Orchard Beach, Maine have joined the Strategic Insurance Agency Alliance (SIAA), an agency network based in Hampton, N.H., SIAA said.
