W.R. Berkley

Greenwich, Conn.-headquartered W. R. Berkley Corp. announced that it formed a new marine division of its Berkley Offshore Underwriting Managers operating unit.

Through its New York office, Berkley Offshore will underwrite a full spectrum of marine hull and liability coverages to brownwater vessel operators, ports, terminals and other marine entities based in the United States and Canada. W. R. Berkley is an insurance holding company that is among the largest commercial lines writers in the U.S. The company operates in five P/C segments: specialty insurance, regional P/C insurance, alternative markets, reinsurance and international.

PGI, American Altair Group

PGI Commercial, the U.S. program manager of Bermuda-based insurance distributor Primary Group, has acquired the assets American Altair Group (AAG), based in Hauppauge, N.Y.

AAG is a full-service program administrator that specializes in commercial real estate risks. It has significant representation in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. PGI Commercial said AAG’s book of business will further complement PGI’s existing book of real estate business which is primarily West Coast-based.

Allied World Assurance

Switzerland-headquartered Allied World Assurance Company Holdings announced the opening of Allied World U.S.’s new office in Philadelphia. Allied World said that since 2008, the company has focused on building out a national branch network, which now includes 10 offices. Allied World Assurance, through its subsidiaries, is a global provider of property, casualty and specialty insurance and reinsurance solutions.

MetLife

The New York-based insurance and financial services giant MetLife is purchasing posh golf community Reynolds Plantation in Greensboro, Georgia, from a local development company, according to a report from The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The deal includes six golf courses, four marinas, nearly 5,000 acres of undeveloped land and the Ritz-Carlton Lodge at Lake Oconee. The community is about 80 miles east of downtown Atlanta. MetLife says Birmingham, Ala.-based Daniel Corp. will oversee the properties.
