Johnson McCann, C.O. Brown, Apollo Insurance Agency

Three Minnesota insurance agencies — Johnson McCann of St. Paul, C.O. Brown of Rochester and the Apollo Insurance Agency of St. Cloud — have joined forces to become the second largest private insurance brokerage in Minnesota.

Among them, they have a dozen offices in the state. All of the agencies offer commercial property and casualty, homeowners and auto insurance, group employee benefits and individual life and health insurance.

Pat McCann serves as president of the recently combined group.

Pat McCann and his wife, Gayle, are principals of Johnson McCann, which specializes in providing insurance options to medical groups, nonprofit organizations, corporations, banks and municipalities. The company employs 22 benefits advisors, consultants, and support staff.

C.O. Brown is headed by Mark Hayford, president. C.O. Brown Agency was founded in 1917 and is the largest independent insurance agency in southeastern Minnesota. It employs more than 85 insurance professionals. The firm has offices in Rochester, Austin, Kasson, Lake City, Mankato and Red Wing. Hayford also is affiliated with the third agency in the merger, the Apollo Insurance Agency.

The Apollo Insurance Agency, which has offices in St. Cloud, Albany, Melrose, Alexandria and Monticello, is headed by partners John Delinsky, Steve Thelen and DeEtte Wurm. Apollo serves more than 5,000 businesses and individuals in Minnesota and surrounding states. It has more than 40 employees.

Heffernan Insurance Brokers, Benefits Solutions Group

Heffernan Insurance Brokers is expanding in St. Louis, Mo., with the addition of Benefits Solutions Group, also of St. Louis.

The Benefit Solutions Group will relocate to Heffernan’s offices in 2013 to work as a united team. Linda Huber, of Benefit Solutions Group has been named Heffernan’s senior vice president and employee benefits practice leader for St. Louis.

Heffernan is headquartered in Walnut Creek, Calif.

Burkart-Heisdorf Insurance Agency, McClone

Two independent insurance agencies in Wisconsin have joined forces with the acquisition of Burkart-Heisdorf Insurance Agency Inc. by McClone.

McClone, founded in 1949, is a third-generation family company that helps companies and individuals drive down their risk. With office locations in the Fox Valley, Oshkosh, Fond du Lac, and Milwaukee markets in Wisconsin, McClone has more than 70 employees.

Burkart-Heisdorf, founded in 1916, has a main office in Sheboygan, as well as locations in Mount Horeb and Green Lake, Wis. The full lines insurance agency employs more than 40 in its three locations.

Burkart-Heisdorf Insurance will continue to operate under its current name and locations. Its agency ownership group and employees all are continuing as employees of the newly combined organization.

Combined Agents of America

Combined Agents of America LLC (CAA) has added five new agency members from Kansas: Fuqua Ruth Typer Insurance; SBS Insurance Agency; Keller-Leopold Insurance Inc.; Wood-Dulohery Insurance; and ICI Insurance Brokers.

Together these new members bring more than $65 million in premium growth to CAA, and a wide geographic spread of agency coverage in Kansas.

In 2011, CAA generated more than $505.8 million in combined property and casualty annual premiums. CAA now has 52 insurance agency members.

Fuqua Ruth Typer Insurance is a family owned and operated insurance agency with offices in Hesston and Newton, Kan., and serves clients in Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma.

ICI Insurance Brokers, established in 1885, is a consultative insurance broker providing personal and business insurance for clients in El Dorado, Emporia, Derby, Wichita and the surrounding areas of Kansas. The agency’s official corporate name is Insurance Center Inc.

Keller-Leopold Insurance Inc. was founded in Garden City in 1943. It is a multi-line insurance agency serving the residents of Southwest Kansas with offices in Garden City, Dodge City, Cimarron, Syracuse, Bucklin and Ness City.

SBS Insurance Agency is a locally owned and operated insurance agency based in Seneca, Kansas. SBS Insurance is officially licensed as Runnebaum Inc.

Wood-Dulohery Insurance Inc. was founded in Parsons in 1961. The agency provides personal and commercial insurance coverage to residents in Southeast Kansas with offices in Parsons and Pittsburg, Kan.

Founded in 1997 Combined Agents of America LLC (CAA) is based in Austin, Texas. Its members are located throughout Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas.
