ID theft warning in Okla.

December 25, 2006

Oklahoma Attorney General Drew Edmondson issued a consumer alert to customers of First State Bank in Ketchum warning them about a scam being perpetrated in their area.

According to the AG’s office, the bank had gotten complaints from customers who said they had received a call from someone purporting to be from the bank. The caller asks the bank customers to verify their account information.

First State Bank, which does not request account information over the phone, notified its customers and asked those that have received a similar call to contact the bank. First State Bank’s phone number is (918) 782-3252.

Edmonson noted that it is “never a good idea to give out financial information over the phone unless you initiated the phone call to someone you know and are comfortable doing business with.”
