Soft Ending

“For commercial lines, what we’re seeing is we’re still seeing declines in premiums year-over-year, but what we’re looking at is a point and a half whereas a year ago we might have been seeing nine, 10 percent decline year-over-year. What we’re seeing is moving along that curve to where we should see flat to increases over the next several quarters.”

—Jon Wright, SNL Financial’s director of insurance.

All Business

“The judiciary in West Virginia has, from time to time, been considered by the business community to not be favorable to business litigation.”

—Wayne County Circuit Judge Darrell Pratt, who wrote the recommendation of a committee that the state establish a new court for business cases only.

Not So Fast

“We absolutely do support the concept that West Virginia develop its own exchange — if we’re mandated by the federal government. But absent that mandate, our position is ‘Well, now, not so fast here. Let’s take a hard look at this.'”

—Gray Marion, Independent Insurance Agents of West Virginia, on the state establishing a health insurance exchange.
