Industries Score on Helping Each Other

By | August 4, 2003

My idea of a big day on the golf greens is playing miniature golf or putt-putt as some folks refer to it.

I can’t say I’m an expert on the various PGA and LPGA players, heck I even have trouble keeping score. One thing I can say for sure, however, is that the game of golf intersects many lives on a daily basis.

One such intersection is between the game and the insurance industry. Go to a major insurance conference across the country and you are likely to find a golf tournament somewhere on their schedule of events for attendees. Along with allowing for a few hours of rest and relaxation, many golf events in the insurance industry go towards raising money for various charities or giving insurance men
and women an opportunity to network in a less hectic environment.

When we sat down and planned out this special issue showing the relationship between the two industries, we wondered if there would be enough to say about the two. Well, after pouring over both actual
stories and story ideas, I think we accomplished that.

Being a big sports fan, I’m always Monday morning quarter-backing
the games, thinking if they only would have put this player in or run this play… Such is the same with this issue.

While putting it together, I thought of how we might have done this differently or covered this subject instead of that one. Well, hopefully this is the first in a string of annual golf and the insurance industry issues to come over the years for Insurance Journal.

In this issue, you will find how clubs and courses are insured, golf tips for agents, how amputees can rediscover their lives on the links, how the women’s professional game has grown in more than 50 years, how executives use golf to network, and much more.

Like any issue we put together, we want and appreciate your feedback. Devoting an issue to golf and the insurance industry should provide a myriad of thoughts. Was it a good idea? Should we have devoted this issue to something else? What would you like to see in a second golf and the insurance industry issue that we didn’t cover this swing around?

While we think this issue is a very worthwhile one, drop us a line either way. Those who repeat the same old product time and time again often go by the way-side. Here at Insurance Journal, we like to think we’re never short on ideas. Some may not be better than others, but if you don’t try something new, what is your purpose of being in the first place?

Take a look and share your thoughts with me at dthomas@insurancejournal.com.
