CIBGNY’s Annual Golf Open a Success, Boasts High Attendance

August 4, 2003

Friends, great food and old-fashioned competition attracted the Council of Insurance Brokers of Greater New York members and colleagues to the association’s Annual Golf Open, recently at Engineers Country Club on Long Island’s north shore. The event featured close to 130 registrants making this year’s outing one of the best ever.

“The association enjoys hosting this event each spring,” said Peter Resnick of Interboro Mutual Indemnity, the Golf Open chair. “It can be a way to do a little business, thank a customer, promote CIBGNY and honor our membership—all while having a good time.”

The Golf Open offered participants plenty of ways to test their skills and try their luck. In addition to tournament play, there was a putting green contest, a 50-50 raffle and a go-for-the-green contest. Winners were announced at the day’s conclusion during the buffet dinner.

For their golfing skills, gift certificates from the club’s Pro Shop, were awarded to Michael Passarelli, of Everest Reinsurance Co., for his low net score of 71 and to Rob Mastrantonio, of Omni Risk Management Inc., for his low gross score of 77.

Trophies were given to Daryl Starke, of Progressive Insurance, for longest drive, 295 yards, and to Tim Talty, of Zurich N.A., for his on-the-line straightest shot.

Trophies also went to three closest-to-the-pin winners:
• David Romano, New York Adjustment Bureau Inc., at 6 feet, 8 inches on Hole #3.
• Jim Sluyk, Jr., Fillmore Agency Inc., at 9 inches on Hole #9.
• Eric Stone, Program Brokerage Corp., at 5 feet, 9 inches on Hole #11.

Following the golf tournament, during the golf awards dinner, CIBGNY acknowledged Peter Demetriou of The Demetriou Group as its 2003 Man of the Year. Demetriou will be formally honored at the association’s Dinner Dance, to be held Friday, Nov. 21, at El Caribe Country Club in Brooklyn.
