Staying up-to-date on the latest national insurance news, trends and industry products is what puts today’s top agents and brokers in a league of their own. National conventions and seminars offer valuable opportunities to network with peers, locate new markets, learn about legislative issues, complete CE credits, and most importantly have a good time. The Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America has scheduled its 28th National Legislative Conference for April 21-23 at The Capital Hilton in downtown Washington, D.C. The event will bring hundreds of independent insurance agents and brokers to the nation’s capital to meet with their elected representatives on Capitol Hill. The conference provides an opportunity for agents and brokers to discuss important issues with their congressional representatives. Top issues this year will include insurance regulatory modernization, tort reform, passage of a flood insurance reform bill, and changes in the tax treatment of intangible assets. The AMS Users’ Group National Conference is set for April 22-25, in Indianapolis, Ind. This conference will offer educational sessions explaining new technology including AMS 360, TransactNOW and IBM UniVerse. The theme will be “Driving Innovation” and the program has been designed to allow agents to mix and match sessions, as each session has been designated with a skill level and target audience. The National Association of Insurance Women – International will hold its 63rd annual convention, June 2-5, in Pittsburgh, Penn., at the Westin Convention Center Hotel. The convention will present seminars and discussion groups focusing on national insurance issues, especially issues affecting the increasing number of women in the industry. C. Leslie Charles, the author of Why Is Everyone So Cranky is scheduled to deliver the first keynote speech. “Catch the Wave” at this year’s 19th annual technology, education and networking conference, ASCnet 2004 TENCon!, Oct. 6-9, at Disney’s Coronado Spring Resort in Orlando, Fla. Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani has accepted an invitation to provide the May 20 opening breakfast keynote address at the American Association of Managing General Agents Annual Meeting. The 78th annual meeting of AAMGA will take place May 19-22 at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort and Spa in Phoenix, Ariz. Other highlights of the annual meeting include, an expanded agents and brokers lounge and cyber café, a motorcycle rally for charity, insurance industry trade and vendor mart, and panel discussions with state insurance regulators. The National Association of Professional Surplus Lines Offices will hold its annual convention in Orlando, Fla., Sept. 19-23. It will offer programs on current industry issues and provide attendees an opportunity to interact with other members.
