Roling is National Alliance Tallahassee Producer School Recipient

Mark Roling, a sales executive with Iowa-based Cottingham & Butler, was recently selected as the National Alliance Tallahassee Producer School recipient of the Matt Wells Scholarship for Producer Development. Matt Wells, son of Mark Wells, publisher of Insurance Journal, was the marketing manager of Insurance Journal West and Texas, and died after a long battle with brain cancer on March 2, 2002.

Through a partnership of Insurance Journal and The National Alliance School for Producer Development, Roling was able this month to attend tuition-free the Tallahassee, Florida School for Producer Development.

The tuition scholarship, a $3,800 value, covered materials and instruction, pre/post course work and follow-up, and dinner each Wednes-day night.

Upon learning of his selection, Roling said “I would like to thank the Insurance Journal Magazine, the National Alliance School for Producer Development, and everyone else involved in selecting and providing me with the Matt Wells Scholarship for Producer Development. I am honored to have been selected, and am looking forward to attending the school in Tallahassee over the upcoming weeks.”

Insurance Journal spoke with Roling earlier this month as he attended the school and according to Roling, “Everything is going well at the school up to this point. Going to this producer school is part of my development plan for the agency I work for, but I also realize that it will provide great benefit to me. It is set up as an interactive learning environment, which is where I learn the best. The class will also not only provide me with more technical knowledge, but will also help me to develop a game plan for the sales process.

“I majored in business management at the University of Northern Iowa, and knew that I wanted to do something in the business world. Insurance allows me to interact with people everyday, and it also provides the challenge of developing a package to specifically fit a company’s needs. I hope the school helps to work any kinks out of the processes I currently use, as well as show me better ways to do certain things. I am investing three weeks of time in which I could be prospecting and working on future clients, but I know in the long run this will be very beneficial to me.”
