Wells is National Alliance Los Angeles Producer School Recipient

Joshua Wells, an account executive with Las Vegas-based George L. Brown Insurance & Associates, was recently selected as the National Alliance City of Industry (Los Angeles) Producer School recipient of the Matt Wells Scholarship for Producer Development. Matt Wells, son of Insurance Journal publisher Mark Wells, worked for Insurance Journal West and Texas and died in 2002 after a long battle with cancer.

Joshua Wells, who is unrelated to the Wells family that publishes Insurance Journal, will be able to attend the Producer School tuition-free due to a partnership between The National Alliance School for Producer Development and Insurance Journal. The School for Producer Development is a three-week series of insurance courses and sales training sessions. The $3,800 scholarship will cover tuition, materials, instruction, pre/post course work and follow-up and some evening events.

Joshua said that he is looking forward to attending the Producer School, which will be held from Jan.16 — Feb. 4, 2005.

“I’ve heard that the Producer school is the best school out there right now,” he said. “I look forward to coming to the school, to be able to bounce ideas off other people and see how other people generate leads out there, and how they’re going about getting their business. I am really thankful for the scholarship. It’s going to help me out a lot.”

Joshua said that he enjoys the personal nature of the insurance industry. “I like meeting with the people,” he said. “I’ve always worked in customer service and I like meeting all the different people. I like the competition to save people money. I’m out there hunting for the best rates, just saving somebody else money.”

He said that he hopes to gain more product knowledge at the school and eventually specialize in E&O.

“I think that finding the niches and learning new niches will help me stay competitive,” Joshua said. “Companies are always changing and so niches are always changing. Once I learn how to develop a new niche I think that will help me a lot so I’ll be able to change with the times and stay ahead of the game.”

Joshua has been with George L. Brown Insurance, a family-owned establishment, since October 2004. He is the third generation in his family to enter the insurance industry. Unfortunately, his grandfather, Rusty Swain, passed away before Joshua could obtain his license.

“I’ve grown up around insurance my whole life,” he said. “I wanted to make my grandfather happy; I know this is what he wanted me to do because I was next in line. I wish my grandfather was here because he would be so proud. He would’ve been a great teacher but now the school will be my teacher.”
