Baylor University endowed professorship honors Texas agent

February 6, 2006

Bill Bailey, founder of Bailey Insurance & Financial Services in Waco, Texas, was honored recently with the establishment of the Bill Bailey Endowed Professorship of Insurance & Risk Management in Baylor University’s Hankamer School of Business.

On the occasion of the agency’s 50th anniversary, its president, Wes Bailey, presented a check in the amount of $100,000 to Baylor University to establish the endowment in honor of his father. Baylor University is one of a handful of higher education institutions across the country offering students a business degree in insurance and risk management.

“It would be quite impossible to try and explain the incredible impact that Bill Bailey has had on the insurance industry,” stated Wes Bailey. “It would also be quite impossible to describe what an absolute pleasure and joy it has been for me to work alongside him over the last 27 years.

“Certainly, one of the highlights of his career was serving as president of the Independent Insurance Agents of & Brokers of America from 1990 to 1991. Furthermore, Dad was especially honored in 1990 when he received the Drex Forman Award from the Independent Insurance Agents of Texas, and then again when 1993 when he received the Woodworth Memorial Award from IIABA.”

Wes Bailey said his father has made numerous friends in the insurance industry over the years who were “quick to respond to the invitation to participate in the establishment of the endowed professorship in his honor.” He added that many “insurance companies, wholesalers, independent agents and friends literally from across the country” contributed to the endowment.

Agents and friends of Bill Bailey who wish to participate may still contribute to the endowment by mailing checks payable to Baylor University to either Cathy Pleitz at Baylor University, One Bear Place #97026, Waco, Texas 76798 or to Wes Bailey at Bailey Insurance & Financial Services, P.O. Box 298, Waco, Texas 76703.
