Alabama Streamlines Licensing Process

September 1, 2008

Since the beginning of Alabama Gov. Bob Riley’s administration, Insurance Commissioner Walter A. Bell said it has been the Department’s goal to streamline regulation and to reduce red tape.

A new producer licensing system, which will be accessible at the Department’s Web site, (www.aldoi.gov) will go online Sept. 29.

The old system will be taken down on Sept. 17, which means for those intervening days, there will be no ability to renew licenses online. Thus, to ensure timely renewal and avoid possible problems with the new system, Bell urged all licensees renewing in September are urged to do so prior to Sept. 16.

The licensing improvement started with additional locations for the examination. It continued with the ability to renew licenses online. It grew yet again with the ability to print a license online, Bell said.

Now the state’s partnership with SBS (State Based Systems) will let producers track their continuing education credits and give them personal access to their producer data. Instead of calling the department to verify continuing education credits, producers will be able to do it from their own office or home computer.

There are fees associated with the new system that will pay for SBS’ services. A producer can access records online for $5.95 per year. Continuing education providers will pay $1 per credit hour per producer for filing CE credits online.
