The number of days Congress extended the National Flood Insurance Program after leaving town and letting it expire on June 1. The latest temporary reauthorization is until Sept. 30 and retroactive to June 1. The NFIP should return to normal operations during this time. Since the extension is retroactive, any new policy applications or renewals that were signed and submitted during the hiatus will be effective from the date of application or, in the case of waiting periods, the waiting period will start from the date of application.

The amount that Imperial Sugar has agreed to pay in fines for safety violations at its Georgia refinery where a dust explosion killed 14 workers in 2008, federal. The settlement with the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration comes nearly two years after regulators first sought to penalize the Texas-based company for allowing combustible sugar dust to accumulate in dangerous amounts inside its plants despite prior warnings Imperial Sugar was cited for 124 safety violations, including 69 willful violations.

The amount Nashville’s insurance policy will kick in to cover the costs of repairing public facilities damaged by severe flooding in May. Metro Nashville Finance Director Rich Riebeling said the estimated cost of fixing public works after the flood is about $250 million. He said all but about $5 million will be reimbursed by the federal and state government and the $100 million city insurance policy.

The estimated average range of individual monthly premiums under President Barack Obama’s new health coverage for uninsured people with health problems. Some premiums could be as low as $140 and as high as high as $900 a month, administration officials said. The price range is wide because premiums will be keyed to standard individual health insurance rates in each state, which can differ dramatically because of medical costs and the scope of coverage.
