The cost thus far to BP of dealing with its oil spills in the Gulf of Mexico. BP said that since it capped the well on July 15, it has spent around $90 million a day — in line with the spend rate while the well was gushing over 60,000 barrels per day into the sea.

Amount awarded by a Virginia jury to a former high school student for permanent injuries he suffered in a 2006 lunchtime fight. The jury also awarded Gregory Gagnon interest dating back to the fight, which could increase the award by $1 million. In awarding the damages, the jury determined that a student who threw the punch and an assistant principal should pay the majority of the damages. Medical experts for Gagnon said he has permanent, traumatic epilepsy and impaired sleep and other brain-related disorders as a result of the punch and subsequent fall.

Insured value of the iconic, 3-foot mane of of dark, culy hair atop the head of Pittsburg Steelers star Troy Polamalu, according to a policy taken out by Head and Shoulders shampoo. Polamalu is paid to endorse the brand. The company did not reveal the perils that would allow the company to collect on the policy.

Proposed hike in some workers’ comp medical fees sought by the New York Workers’ Compensation Board. The fees, for evaluation and medical management payments, have not seen an increase since 1996. The board says it plans to evaluate increasing other payments for doctors later this year.

Minimum number of Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles customers who will need to have their photos retaken after computer problems at the state agency caused the photos to disappear. Virginia’s DMV has been plagued by computer system failures all summer – including days-long outages.
