Indiana Ins. Commissioner Carol Cutter

Indiana Insurance Commissioner Carol Cutter passed away Sept. 6, 2010, in Indianapolis, the National Association of Insurance Commissioners reported.

“We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of our colleague, Indiana Insurance Commissioner Carol Cutter. Carol brought a wealth of experience and expertise to her job and her dedication to the people in her state was beyond comparison. We extend our thoughts and condolences to Carol’s family and loved ones,” stated NAIC President and West Virginia Insurance Commissioner Jane L. Cline.

In addition to serving as insurance commissioner, Cutter was active in the Health Underwriters Association at the national, state and local level. The Indiana Health Underwriters Association annually presents an award in Cutter’s honor: The Carol Cutter Legislative Excellence Award.

Cutter was named insurance commissioner in 2009 after Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels Jr. appointed her predecessor, Jim Atterholt, to serve on the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission.

Cutter previously served as DOI deputy commissioner of health issues. Prior to serving in state government, Cutter worked in various capacities in the insurance industry for nearly 30 years.

Funeral services were held Sept. 10, 2010, at Friedens United Church of Christ, 8300 South Meridian Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46217.

Her family has requested that donations in Carol’s memory be made to Friedens United Church of Christ.
