Fine paid to the state of Connecticut by Ohio-based American Modern Home Insurance Co. for agent-licensing violations. A recent market conduct examination by regulators found that American Home had 75 agents who were not appointed and 11 individual agents who were not licensed to write business in the state.

Number of young chickens killed in an early morning fire at a Virginia poultry house last month. It took seven fire departments to control the fire, which officials say began on the second floor near a stove.

$300 Million

Estimated cost of Liberty Mutual Group’s new headquarters in Boston, where company execs and local officials celebrated a ground-breaking last month. When finished, the 22-story, 590,000 square-foot office building at 157 Berkeley St. will create 600 new full-time positions at the company and an additional 500 construction jobs. Since January 2008, Liberty Mutual has added 600 employees in Massachusetts, with 300 of those jobs coming to Boston.

Settlement reached between the town of East Lyme, Conn. and a former high school track athlete who was severely injured after crashing into a cement wall during practice. The student, Nicholas Furlani, sued the town, the education board, his coach and other officials after hitting the wall head first during a practice in school hallways in December 2007. He said in his suit that his coach taught sprinters to put their heads down at the end of close races.
