3 Florida Claims Bills Signed

April 14, 2012

A man and a boy who suffered brain damage due to government negligence and the parents of a slain police informant will be compensated through three bills signed by Gov. Rick Scott.

One would require Lee County’s public hospital system to pay $15 million to 14-year-old Aaron Edwards. Mistakes made at his birth left him confined to a wheelchair and unable to speak.

Another bill calls for an insurance company to pay $10.75 million to Eric Brody. He was left in a similar condition when a speeding Broward County Sheriff’s deputy who was late for work rammed into his car.

The third lets the city of Tallahassee pay Rachel Hoffman’s parents $2.4 million. She was murdered during a botched drug sting.
