Agency Groups Offer Pre-Licensing Classes for Veterans

June 15, 2015

The Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of New Jersey (IIABNJ) launched a new career program on Memorial Day, May 25, aimed at supporting the men and women of the armed forces.

The program, called the “U.S. Veterans Pre-Licensing Program,” offers veterans residing in New Jersey a free online property/casualty pre-licensing course. The online course was developed by IIABNJ and would normally cost $550 to take.

Upon completion of the course, veterans may proceed to take the New Jersey State licensing exam and subsequently apply for their initial insurance license. Once licensed, the program would reimburse participating veterans for the $90 cost of taking the licensing exam and the $150 cost to obtain the initial license.

And in Virginia, the Virginia Association of Insurance Agents (VAIA) said on June 5 that it will provide free pre-licensing classes for veterans and their spouses. Classes are scheduled in Cedar Bluff, Chesapeake, Manassas and Richmond, Virginia, and are taught by industry professionals. This program, which normally costs $300 to take, is done in a three or four day format.
