UPCIC Enters Penn. Homeowners Market

Universal Insurance Holdings Inc. in Florida announced on June 1 that the Pennsylvania Insurance Department has approved the homeowners insurance rates and forms of its wholly-owned subsidiary, Universal Property & Casualty Insurance Company (UPCIC), and that UPCIC has subsequently written its first homeowners insurance policy in Pennsylvania.

“We are pleased to write our first homeowners insurance policy in Pennsylvania. We look forward to growing our network of independent agents in Pennsylvania and offering our insurance products to citizens of the Keystone state,” said Sean Downes, president and CEO of Universal Insurance Holdings.

“This marks the tenth state of operation for the company and another key milestone in our geographic expansion efforts,” said Downes.

Fort Lauderdale, Florida-based Universal Insurance Holdings said in its announcement that UPCIC is a leading writer of homeowners insurance in Florida and is licensed to offer its homeowners insurance products in North Carolina, South Carolina, Hawaii, Georgia, Massachusetts, Maryland, Delaware, Indiana and now Pennsylvania.
