The Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation announced a Greenville, Ohio, man has pled guilty to a felony charge of workers’ compensation fraud. Dr. Robert Fantasia was sentenced to one year of probation, basic supervision and court costs. He also paid BWC over $216,000 in restitution and surrendered his State of Ohio chiropractic license.
Anonymous sources alerted BWC special investigations that Fantasia was improperly billing BWC. The special investigations unit confirmed though undercover operations that criminal activity was occurring in his office. Evidence showed that Dr. Fantasia billed for services not rendered, billed for no-show appointments and improperly up coded forms.
BWC special investigations is dedicated to identifying and investigating workers’ compensation fraud. Since its establishment in 1993, the department has saved the agency over $820 million. In 2004, the department has saved the agency approximately $126 million, the highest amount yet recorded.
