$255 Million

More than $240 million in federal disaster aid will be used to buyout home and properties in Iowa damaged by record flooding in 2008. The money will be used in areas where Federal Emergency Management Agency funds are not available. The state had already allocated $10 million for home buyout programs. The total is now $255 million. Much of the money is expected to go to the Cedar Rapids area. Local governments will be able to apply for funds to buy out properties from a list maintained by FEMA and the Iowa Emergency Management Division.
