More than 350 of the state’s most progressive and influential agency principals and managers will gather for the Independent Insurance Agents of Texas’ Joe Vincent Management Seminar & Big I Legislative Day on Feb. 2-4 at the Renaissance Austin Hotel. One of the country’s top management conferences for independent agents, the seminar is named in honor of longtime IIAT member and past president Joe E. Vincent. The conference kicks into gear on Feb. 3 with a featured presentation during the general session. “It’s Your Ship: Management Techniques From the Best Damn Ship in the Navy,” by Captain D. Michael Abrashoff, former Commander of the USS Benfold, is a fascinating story describing how he took a ship at the bottom of the Navy’s rankings and inspired its crew to achieve some of the highest ratings ever. Attendees will gain insight into market trends with “State of the Industry,” presented by Robert Hartwig, chief economist of the Insurance Information Institute. Hartwig will evaluate the impact of mold claims, terrorism and market returns on the ability of companies to grow in Texas. The seminar also features a variety of workshops designed to meet the diverse needs of independent agents. Feb. 4 is IIAT’s Big I Legislative Day, which begins with a briefing session on IIAT’s legislative issues and goals, followed by meetings with legislators at the state Capitol. The day concludes with an IIAT-sponsored luncheon for agents and legislators at the UT Frank Erwin Center.
