Massachusetts officials have approved the merger of West Newbury Mutual Fire Insurance Co., a Massachusetts domiciled company, into Dorchester Mutual Insurance Co., also a Massachusetts company. The purpose of the merger is to streamline operations for their common parent, Norfolk & Dedham Mutual Fire Insurance Co. Massachusetts Insurance Commissioner Julianne Bowler found that the merger may allow policyholders of Dorchester to benefit from a stronger company with broader product selection. There will be no change in insurance contracts or in policyholders’ voting rights as a result.
