January 3, 2005

Max Mayfield, National Hurricane Center director and Bill Bailey, Hurricane Insurance Information Center director will join leading property insurance industry experts speaking at the Feb. 1 — 4, Sixth Annual Windstorm Insurance Conference at the Waterside Marriott in Tampa. Topics discussed during the conference will include: catastrophe and emergency mitigation, condominium losses, Florida building code, hail damage, wind versus flood, wind’s effect on building, mediation strategies, mold issues, the state of Florida’s response to disaster, sinkholes, deposition training, ethics and cultural diversity. The conference is co-sponsored by the Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section of the American Bar Association and the Property Insurance Plans Service Office. It has been designed to provide a variety of workshops in which specific tracks will be discussed by insurance agents, catastrophe adjusters, public adjusters, risk managers, engineers, and other experts and counsel. By bringing together all of the segments of the insurance industry that deal with the impact of a windstorm, a greater understanding can be developed in dealing with windstorm issues, organizers said. Last year, more than 500 people attended the three-day conference. The conference will focus on the four major hurricanes that severely impacted Florida and other states.
