Dan Pettigrew

Caliber Collision Centers, which operates collision repair facilities in California and Texas, named Dan Pettigrew as executive vice president of Operations. In this position, Pettigrew assumes responsibility for the oversight of all center operations in California and Texas, and in other new markets as the company expands. In addition, he will be responsible for regional and support functions including regulatory compliance, procurement and facilities management. Pettigrew began his career with Caliber Collision Centers in 1997, and over the past six years has made several significant contributions to Caliber’s growth and success. Since 2002, he has managed Caliber’s business operations in Texas, including Caliber’s 30 locations in the Dallas/Ft. Worth, Austin, San Antonio and Corpus Christi markets.

George Owens

North Texas-based Higginbotham & Associates named George Owens risk services provider in the firm’s Risk Management Department. With the addition of Owens, the unit is expanding its offerings to include contractual and operational risk services. Owens, with 15 years experience in contractual risk management, has worked within a variety of industries to help both U.S. and international businesses secure financial stability by identifying and resolving risks embedded in their agreements and contracts. He previously occupied insurance and risk management positions at Alexander & Alexander, C.L. Frates and Co., and McGriff, Seibels & Williams.

Mark J. Rolland

Legacy Texas Insurance Services, based in Plano, added Mark J. Rolland to its team as account executive in the Austin area. A 31-year veteran of the insurance industry, Rolland most recently served as president and chief operating officer for the Society of Certified Insurance Services in Austin. He was also senior vice president for the National Alliance for Insurance Education & Research, leading the business development efforts nationally. Rolland is an active volunteer in various community service activities and currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Academy of Producer Insurance Studies, also based in Austin.

Evan G. Greenberg

The board of directors of ACE Ltd., elected its president, Evan G. Greenberg, to the additional post of CEO, effective May 27, 2004. Greenberg was formerly a top executive at American International Group and is the son of AIG CEO Hank Greenberg. Greenberg’s career at ACE began when he joined the company in 2001 to run its reinsurance group. In 2002 he took over all of ACE’s international operations and has run the company on a day-to-day basis as chief operations officer since June 2003.

David R. Bradley

United National Group Ltd. appointed David R. Bradley as CEO. He was also elected to the company’s Board of Directors. Bradley served for 31 years at the Hartford Financial Services Group, most recently as executive vice president of Hartford Fire and president of Hartford Specialty Co. He began his career at Hartford as an actuary.

Acordia RE announced that Robert F. McGarry has joined the organization as senior vice president. McGarry is responsible for reinsurance production and management of the Dallas office of Acordia RE. Most recently, McGarry was with JLT Re Solutions, where he was the manager and head of production for the Dallas office. He has almost 40 years of insurance and reinsurance experience. During the course of his career as an insurer, reinsurer and intermediary, McGarry has held a broad range of positions and responsibilities within claims, client services, marketing, program placement and new business production. He began his career with Liberty Mutual Insurance Company. After 10 years with Liberty he moved into the reinsurance business with American Reinsurance Company. McGarry has worked on the reinsurance intermediary side with HS Fox, which was later acquired by Guy Carpenter, and later he was with Benfield Greig.

The Houston Association of Insurance Women announced new officers for 2004. They are: president – Merry Jane Eversole, AFS/IBEX Financial Services (formerly American Financial Services); president elect – Sharon Hill, Harco Insurance Services; vice president – Patricia Barnes-Casteig; The Comp Solutions Network; secretary – Stephanie Goldsmith, Harco Insurance Services; and treasurer – Dianne Wilson, The Comp Solutions Network.

Eversole has been the South Texas marketing manager for American Financial Services Inc. since April 1999. In January 2004 their name changed to AFS/IBEX Financial Services. She has been in insurance-related businesses since 1979 when she organized an insurance restoration company in Houston. She is a former executive director of the Federation of Insurance Women of Texas (FIWT), and is active in the Independent Insurance Agents of Texas (IIAH).

Zurich North America appointed Christopher A. Taylor as president of the Financial Enterprises profit center. In this capacity, Taylor will lead efforts to further strengthen the company’s position in the financial institution and related financial services industry. In his previous position as senior vice president for Zurich’s Financial Enterprises Target Markets group, Taylor was responsible for sales, distribution and business development. He joined that group at the end of 1994 as regional vice president for the Chesapeake region. Previously, he had 17 years experience in the insurance industry and held a number of management and leadership positions in underwriting, marketing and sales.

ACE USA, the U.S.-based retail operations of the ACE Group of Companies, named Kathleen Muedder senior vice president, Emerging Issues. She will focus on identifying strategic opportunities for growth within ACE USA’s business units, with a primary focus on workers’compensation. Muedder most recently served as the Worldwide Practice Leader for Workers’Compensation and Risk office executive at Royal and Sun Alliance in Charlotte, N.C. Prior to that, she was associate executive director at Workers’Compensation Research Institute (WCRI) and vice oresident, Corporate Underwriting and director of Government Affairs for Zurich Insurance. Her experience has included assignments in New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, the United Kingdom and Canada. She began her career with Allstate Insurance as an agent and
underwriter.

Markel American Insurance Company appointed Thomas Conroy to the position of Marine director. Conroy joined Markel American in 1989 and has long been committed to the marine industry and insurance marketplace. Before taking the Marine director position, he served as Claims supervisor where he led a talented watercraft and recreational vehicle claims team. Conroy is a member of the International Association of Marine Investigators and has obtained his Associate in Claims (AIC) Designation.

Lloyd’s announced that Philip Lader, former U.S. Ambassador to the United Kingdom, is to join the Council at Lloyd’s, the ultimate governing body of the market. Lader served as U.S. Ambassador to the U.K. from 1997 to 2001 and has extensive global business and government experience. He’s currently non-executive chairman of the global advertising/communications services firm, WPP Group plc, and also serves on the boards of Marathon Oil, RAND and AES corporations. He is a senior advisor to investment bank Morgan Stanley. Lader served in President Clinton’s cabinet as administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration, and was White House Deputy Chief of Staff and Assistant to the President.

Marshall & Swift / Boeckh, a worldwide provider of residential and commercial cost data, technology and services for the property insurance industry, announced the appointment of Shelton Shugar as vice
president and chief technology officer. In his role as chief technology officer, Shugar is responsible for product development, product delivery and technology infrastructure.

Endurance Specialty Insurance Ltd., a subsidiary of Bermuda-based Endurance Specialty Holdings Ltd., a global provider of property and casualty insurance and reinsurance, appointed Daniel Izard to head its Reinsurance Operations. He will also retain his post as executive vice president of the company’s Aerospace division. Izard’s new role will be to work with the Property Treaty and Casualty Treaty departments to continue to build out Endurance Specialty’s reinsurance portfolio. He joined Endurance in 2002 from Associated Aviation Underwriters Inc. (AAU), where he served as president and CEO for 15 years. He joined AAU in 1974
as an aviation underwriter and held numerous positions including director of Reinsurance, senior VP/director of National Accounts, and executive VP and chief
operating officer.

Lou Adanio, who most recently served as head of Reinsurance Operations, will now focus on the role of chief underwriting officer of Endurance Specialty.

Aspen Insurance Holdings appointed Adrian Ballardie to the position of chief risk officer. He will be based in London and will report to CEO Chris O’Kane. Ballardie, who brings close to 30 years of experience in underwriting and managing insurance and reinsurance lines of business in the London market, will be responsible for managing underwriting risk at both the strategic and operational level. He most recently served as joint CEO of Axa Re UK’s Corporate Solutions Services.

Homeowners
