Tommy Adams, an independent agent from Bowling Green, was named the 2004/2005 president of the Independent Insurance Agents of Kentucky (IIAK), at the association’s 108th Annual Convention, which was held in Bowling Green at the Sloan Convention Center, in June.
Adams, who is vice president of Charles M. Moore Insurance Agency Inc., in Bowling Green, is the third member of his family, as well as the fourth member of Charles M. Moore Insurance Agency Inc., to serve as president of IIAK.
With plenty of experience behind him, Adams has served both on boards and committees for the state association, as well as the national association—the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America.
Also elected into the Executive Committee of IIAK was local independent agent, James England, who is senior vice president of Acordia of Kentucky Inc., in Pikeville and will take on the position of IIAK president-elect.
Lexington independent agent, Joe Barnes, has been named IIAK vice president. Barnes is a partner & CEO of Bush & Boggs Insurance Agency in Lexington, and is president/CEO of Richards Insurance Agency in Frankfort.
The Independent Insurance Agents of North Carolina (IIANC) announced that Leamon Clemmons Jr., has been named as IIANC’s Young Agent of the Year. Selected annually, this award recognizes the North Carolina agent who has demonstrated commitment and performance for his/her agency, association, industry, community and family.
Clemmons has served on the Eastern Agents Committee, the Beach & Fair Plan Committee, the Independent Insurance Agent Junior Classic Committee and the Young Agents committee within IIANC. Clemmons has attended numerous young agents’ conferences, National Legislative Conferences and the young agent’s sales boot camp. Clemmons is a producer at Brunswick Insurance Services in Supply.
Charlotte, N. C.-based American Wholesale Insurance Group (AmWINS), an independent wholesale insurance broker, announced the appointment of Stephen Vaccaro Jr. as president of its specialty underwriting division.
In this newly created position Vaccaro will work to increase the profitability of the division’s entities through a focused growth strategy. In addition, he will help develop new programs, additional products and coordinate the division’s underwriting facilities as needed with primary and reinsurance markets in the United States, Bermuda and London. AmWINS Specialty Underwriting Division includes Americana Program Underwriters, Lambert Green Limited, Seaboard Underwriters, SPFM and Woodus K. Humphrey.
Vaccaro’s 34-year career in the excess and surplus lines segment of the insurance business has included senior management positions at AIG and The Home Insurance Company. Most recently, he held the position of president and COO of the Essex Insurance Company.
David Kurland was named vice president of Business Development at Property Loss Consulting Inc., an independent adjusting firm with offices in Atlanta, Baltimore and Dallas.
As vice president, Kurland will finalize the alliance formed with IMACC (Independent Mitigation and Cleaning/Conservation) and develop the infrastructure within Property Loss Consulting Inc. for handling the Virtual eAdjuster segment of the business. Additionally, Kurland will expand upon the company’s current niche in the marketplace (handling large and complex losses), enabling them to handle all one’s claim needs, regardless of size or complexity. He also brings with him experience in managing catastrophe operations, and as such, will be working to expand this portion of the company’s business as well.
Most recently, Kurland served as assistant vice president of Home Office Claim Operations for EULER ACI. Prior to that, he worked at Zurich Insurance Group, Crum and Forster Commercial Insurance, Orion Group, and Underwriters Adjusting Co.
The PMA Insurance Group announced that Michelle James has joined the company as assistant vice president of Southern Region Claims.
Based out of PMA’s Charlotte office, James will lead the day-to-day operations for all insurance claims-related activities in North Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Virginia and Florida.
James has nearly 15 years’ experience in the insurance industry. Prior to joining PMA, she spent 13 years with Travelers, most recently as associate service center manager. She has a specialty in workers’ compensation, and is also experienced with automobile, general liability and property lines of business.
She has also managed claims units concentrating in construction, middle and residual markets as well as a special investigative group. She began her career with Kemper Insurance Co.
Raleigh, N. C.-based First Citizens Bank has hired Carl Inman as manager of the company’s property/casualty division.
He most recently served as vice president of operations with the Independent Insurance Agents of North Carolina Inc., where he managed the agency that provides coverage for all property/casualty
programs written for North Carolina. Inman has nearly 30 years of experience in the insurance industry.
Atlanta-based Crawford & Co. announced that Annette Sanchez, executive vice president, Risk Management Services and Healthcare Management Services, would be leaving the company effective June 30, 2004.
Crawford & Co. is a provider of claims management solutions to insurance companies and self-insured entities, with a global network of more than 700 offices in 67 countries.
