Alan Ring joined National Contractors Insurance Co. Inc. (NCIC), a risk retention group, headquartered in Big Fork, Mont., as director of sales and marketing.

Prior to joining NCIC, Ring was a regional manager for construction-related publications and affiliated online properties, including contractor, green mechanical contractor, engineering green buildings and building design and construction. Ring also served as a business development manager for Brown & Brown of California Inc., located in Orange, Calif. Prior to Brown & Brown, Ring was vice president of sales and marketing for Wells Publishing, publisher of Insurance Journal. Ring will be based in NCIC’s Anaheim Hills, Calif., office.

PMA Cos. named Patricia A. Brookey assistant vice president for managed care services. Brookey will oversee the managed care vendor management program for the Blue Bell, Pa.-based insurer, which emphasizes managed care as a crucial area of workers’ compensation. Brookey has 20 years of expertise in managed care services, with emphasis on vendor contract negotiation, quality assurance, statistical analysis and compliance. Previously, she was director of case management operations fort the workers’ compensation strategy division of CNA Insurance Co.

Ironshore Inc. named Rod Todd head of its newly established Lloyd’s Property Operation, and promoted Peter Coleman to head of Ironshore’s Bermuda property operations.

Todd has experience in the Lloyd’s Property marketplace. Before joining Ironshore Bermuda in 2007 as senior vice president and property underwriter, he worked at Talbot Underwriting Syndicate as a joint team manager for property direct and facultative. He also previously served as managing director and underwriter at Faraday Syndicate.

Coleman will provide strategic direction and oversight in the development of Ironshore’s Bermuda property operation. He joined Ironshore as a senior vice president and property underwriter at Ironshore’s inception in January 2007. He previously served as principal of Integro London, where he was oversaw marketing, design and structure of complex property programs in the London and European markets.

Stone Creek Insurance Agency in Lafayette, Calif., appointed Dede Szykier customer service manager, and David Seidel head of targeted marketing productions.

Szykier comes with experience in the retail sector, while Seidel has specialized in sports marketing.

California Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner appointed Peter Conlin deputy commissioner for policy and regulations and counsel to the Commissioner for the Department of Insurance (CDI). Conlin replaces outgoing Deputy Commissioner and Counsel to the Commissioner Bill Gausewitz, who is leaving CDI to work as an attorney at the Encino, Calif.-based Michelman & Robinson law firm.

Conlin has served as the Republican consultant for the Insurance Committee in both the California State Assembly and the California State Senate. He also served as the legal counsel to Assembly Speaker Curt Pringle and as counsel to the Senate Minority Leader from 2001-2003. Conlin additionally served as assistant state treasurer from 1998 to 1999. He has worked as an attorney, representing insurance agents, brokers and the American Insurance Association.

Montana Commissioner of Securities and Insurance Monica J. Lindeen was appointed to the North American Securities Administrators Association’s (NASAA) Federal Legislation Committee, a committee as Congress continues the work of reforming the nation’s financial regulatory system.

Lindeen is just one of seven state commissioners to serve on the committee and the only member of the committee among Montana’s neighboring, western states.

The Federal Legislation Committee is tasked with analyzing federal legislation, drafting statutory amendments, testimony, and letters, as well as responding to congressional requests for information. NASAA is a voluntary association with a mission to protect consumers. It is comprised of securities administrators in all fifty states, and the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Canada and Mexico.

Global professional services firm Towers Perrin has named Steve Levene practice leader for its retail insurance brokerage business. Levene’s responsibilities will include strategic risk management programs for corporate and public entity clients.

He is based in the firm’s Stamford, Conn. office. Levene was most recently a managing director of Beecher Carlson. He has also held executive positions at Lockton, Marsh and Sedgwick. He began his career as an underwriter with Crum and Forster.

The National Association of Professional Surplus Lines Offices (NAPSLO) recently honored John Latham, regional president with Markel, for his contributions as an excess and surplus lines professional. He received the Charles A. McAlear/NAPSLO Industry Award at NAPSLO’s annual convention Oct. 9 in Orlando.

This award was established by NAPSLO in the 1980s to honor individuals who have made significant contributions to the surplus lines industry. The award was renamed in 1994 to recognize the association’s first president and founding member. Latham has been involved on the NAPSLO board of directors and committees, legislative efforts and its educational foundation, according to John Wood, president, NAPSLO. Latham has 42 years of experience in the insurance industry. For the past six years he has been at Markel.
