Specialty insurer Philadelphia Insurance Companies has promoted Christopher J. Maguire and Sean S. Sweeney to the position of co-presidents.

Maguire joined Philadelphia Insurance Companies in 1987 and has managed underwriting operations and production. His most recent role has been as chief operating officer. In his new position of co-president and chief operating officer, he will be responsible for the operational oversight of all departments and strategic alignment.

In 1979, Sweeney began his now 31 year tenure at the firm. His most recent role has been as executive vice president and chief marketing officer. In his new position of co-president and chief marketing officer, Sweeney will maintain oversight of sales and marketing and Valley Forge Insurance Brokerage. He will also assist with training and development and lead the Tokio Marine Group’s initiative to promote resource sharing among its subsidiaries.

Marsh & McLennan Agency, a subsidiary of insurance broker Marsh, has appointed three executives to its senior leadership team: Lisa R. Hoffmann, chief information officer, Benjamin A. Newman, senior vice president, Mergers & Acquisitions and Sharon M. Werner, director of Human Resources.

Newman was vice president, Corporate Development and senior vice president, Operations, for USI Affinity with USI Holdings Corp. His 10 years of experience also includes positions with Capital Z Partners and Merrill Lynch & Co.

Hoffmann joins with 23 years of experience in information technology that includes senior positions with Time-Warner’s Synapse Group, Inc., Centex Corp., and GE Commercial Finance. Most recently, she was owner of Optimal Sourcing.

During her 24-year career, Werner has held senior positions in human resources with a number of firms, including Trinchero Family Estates, Synapse Group, Inc., and Diageo.

Novato, Calif.-based Fireman’s Fund Insurance Co. announced that David Zona has joined the company as senior vice president of product management in commercial insurance. He will be responsible for profitability for various commercial lines products.

Most recently, Zona served as vice president at Nationwide Mutual Insurance Co., where he was accountable for the product management and pricing functions of its commercial lines business. Prior to joining Nationwide, Zona was vice president at an AIG unit writing private passenger auto, commercial vehicle and power sports insurance through independent agents.

The Institute for Business & Home Safety in Tampa announced that Allison Dean Love has joined the organization as external relations consultant. Love comes to IBHS from the South Carolina Insurance News Service, where she served as executive director for the past 14 years. Love’s primary responsibility is to expand public awareness of IBHS’ new disaster safety research center in Chester County, South Carolina. Construction of the new center will be completed later this spring.

Montgomery, Alabama-based Alfa Insurance has promoted Steve Rutledge to executive vice president for business development. Rutledge, who has served as Alfa’s chief financial officer and senior vice president of investments, will oversee corporate development, marketing, product development, property/casualty actuary and research activities, as well as provide guidance for Alfa’s Internet, call center and communications activities. A 25-year veteran of Alfa, Rutledge began in the investments department.

The Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers (the Big “I”) has awarded Mississippi insurance agent Ronnie Tubertini with the Woodworth Memorial Award, its highest honor. Tubertini, who is CEO of SouthGroup Insurance Services in Jackson, Miss., was honored for outstanding contributions to the national association, to his colleagues and to the insurance industry.

David Daniel, Big “I” chairman who presented the award, said that Tubertini has served in “almost every possible leadership position with the Independent Insurance Agents of Mississippi, and he has continued that tradition of service at the national association.”
