MarketScout Wholesale (MSW) has expanded operations opening a new location in Tampa, Florida.

Greg Lyons joined MSW to lead Florida operations as a senior broker. Prior to joining MSW, Lyons was a property broker with Appalachian Underwriters and CRC Insurance Services.

MSW, a commercial insurance wholesaler offering brokerage, MGA and specialty program solutions to retail agents nationwide, was launched in 2010 by MarketScout with Glenn Hargrove as president. MSW also serves as wholesaler provider to The MarketScout Exchange.

Professional services firm Towers Watson has named Sean P. McDermott as a director of P/C consulting services. McDermott, who is based in the company’s Philadelphia office, is responsible for expanding the company’s presence in the P/C insurance market, with a primary focus of helping clients address issues that arise in an acquisition.

Prior to joining Towers Watson, McDermott was executive vice president and chief actuary for AXIS Insurance, where he coordinated worldwide actuarial services. Before joining AXIS, McDermott was senior vice president and actuary at American Re-Insurance (now Munich Re).

The ACE Group of has named David Furby as president of Commercial Property/ Casualty for its Overseas General operations. Furby will be responsible for the company’s commercial property and casualty insurance business outside of North America, including property, casualty, financial lines, energy and marine product lines, as well as for the reinsurance ACE purchases for its international insurance operations. He is based in New York and reports to ACE Overseas General Chairman and CEO John Keogh.

Peter Corrigan, president of Florida Family Insurance Co., was recently presented with the Florida Insurance Council’s 2010 Wade E. Holland, Jr. Distinguished Service Award during the trade association’s annual conference.

Corrigan has served as the chairman of the Florida Insurance Council’s (FIC) property insurance committee for the past three years and has played a role in FIC’s legislative and regulatory program. Corrigan is a former chairman of the Florida Windstorm Underwriting Association. He joined Florida Family as a vice president and was promoted to chief underwriting officer in 2002, and promoted again to president in 2008.

CNA Financial Corp. has opened its newest branch office in Birmingham, Alabama. The office is one of five new branches the global business insurer has opened or will open within the past year. Kent Skidmore, recently appointed branch vice president, will lead the Birmingham office. In addition to this office, CNA has opened new branch offices in Chicago, Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles. A new branch office is scheduled to open later this year in Westchester County, N.Y.

Liberty Mutual Group reorganized its commercial property, casualty and specialty lines insurance units as well as claims and loss control services for its national accounts and mid-sized business clients. The new organization will provide agents and brokers with a single point of entry for accessing commercial lines, the insurer says.

The group will operate through six new geographic divisions and a major accounts division. Mark A. Butler has been appointed president of the new distribution and service management group.

Doyle, division general manager, Southwest; David R. Dwortz, division general manager, Northeast; David E. Eaglen, division general manager, Mid-Atlantic; Deborah L. Michel, division general manager, Midwest; George D. Townsend, division general manager, Southeast; Peter L. Wise, division general manager, West; and Mark J. Moitoso, general manager distribution management.
