Marsh & McLennan announced several changes to its senior management team, including the appointment of Daniel S. Glaser, 50, to the newly created position of group president and chief operating officer. Glaser had previously been chairman and chief executive officer of Marsh, a position he assumed in December 2007.

Peter Zaffino, 44, has been named president and chief executive officer of Marsh Inc., succeeding Glaser.

In his role as group president and COO, Glaser will have operational and strategic oversight of Marsh & McLennan Companies’ Risk & Insurance and Consulting segments. In addition, he will have responsibility for the company’s technology, business services, and international and client development functions. Glaser will continue to report to Brian Duperreault, president and chief executive officer of Marsh & McLennan Cos..

Prior to joining Marsh, Glaser had been managing director of AIG Europe and a senior vice president of AIG. He joined Marsh in 1982 and spent the first 10 years of his career in the insurance industry as a broker.

Zaffino, who is succeeding Glaser as the new president and chief executive officer of Marsh Inc., had been president and chief executive officer of Guy Carpenter, a position he assumed in early 2008. He previously held a number of executive management positions within the firm, including executive vice president, head of U.S. Treaty Operations and head of Global Specialty Practices. He has more than 20 years of experience in the insurance and reinsurance industry.

Also, Alexander Moczarski, 55, has been named president and chief executive officer of Guy Carpenter, succeeding Zaffino. Moczarski had been president of the international division of Marsh Inc., responsible for operations in all areas of the world outside the U.S. and Canada. Moczarski, who has more than 30 years of experience in the insurance industry, joined Marsh in 1993 from AIG.

Insurer W.R. Berkley has promoted Peter L. Kamford to a newly created position and named Philip S. Welt senior vice president.

Kamford co-head the placement of the insurer’s ceded reinsurance programs along with senior vice president Robert W. Gosselink. Welt will head the company’s operating units previously overseen by Kamford.

Kamford has served as senior vice president since 2005, working with several of the insurer’s admitted specialty lines operating units. He has over 30 years of experience in property casualty reinsurance, previously serving as managing director of Guy Carpenter & Co. where he was responsible as a reinsurance intermediary for placement of significant reinsurance programs.

Welt joined W. R. Berkley in 2004 and has served as vice president, senior counsel. Previously, he was an assistant general counsel — mergers and acquisitions at a major international insurer and a corporate associate with the New York law offices of Davis Polk & Wardwell.

The Zurich Financial Services Group announced that after a 33-year career with the company, Paul N. Hopkins will retire as a member of the Group Executive Committee, regional chairman of the Americas for Zurich, and chairman of the board of Farmers Group Inc., effective June 30. Zurich said that Mike Foley will continue in his current roles of GEC member and CEO of Zurich’s North America Commercial business, and will also take on the additional role of regional chairman of the Americas for Zurich.

Axel P. Lehmann will continue in his current roles of GEC member and Group chief risk officer, and take on the additional role of chairman of the board of Farmers Group Inc.

The Property Casualty Insurers Association of America (PCI) has named Michael Bell senior counsel, financial policy in the policy development and research department. Bell, based in Washington, D.C., spent over 20 years in private legal practice, providing counsel on complex tax issues. He was a partner at Jackson & Campbell, Dewey & LeBoeuf and Price Waterhouse. He has also served as a senior tax counsel for the American Counsel of Life Insurers.

TD Insurance has named Mark P. Sweeney as vice president in Providence, Rhode Island. He is responsible for new client development as well as the management of health and welfare plans for clients in the commercial and middle market segments. Sweeney’s geographic responsibilities include Rhode Island, Southeastern Massachusetts and the Cape Cod. Sweeney has 13 years of experience in insurance and banking. Prior to joining TD Insurance, he served in similar positions at Fleet Bank in Providence, and Bank of America in Providence and Boston. TD Insurance is a subsidiary of TD Bank.

Specialty insurer Markel appointed John Termini as managing director for its environmental product line. Termini, based in Richmond, Virginia, has 20 years of insurance experience and most recently served as vice president and director of environmental liability for Aspen Specialty. He has also held management positions with Aon Risk Services, Kemper and AIG Environmental.

Pennsylvania-based broker KMRD Partners has added Ryan Rosta and Melissa Seserko. Rosta will serve as sales and relationship manager. He formerly served with a top 50 insurance broker in Philadelphia and has extensive experience performing risk management and coverage needs assessments on upper middle-market companies. He has also brings additional expertise in construction and wrap-ups to KMRD. Seserko will serve as client service coordinator. She is experienced in coordination, planning and implementation of client services and reporting tools that show project progress.

New York-based wholesale broker Russell Bond & Co. promoted Kim Thome to claims manager. She will assist clients nationwide in understanding each insurer’s process and requirements for claim filing as well as procedures, legal issues, tracking and recording. Thome joined Russell Bond in January 2003 as technical assistant in the MGA department and was promoted to claims examiner in 2008.

Christopher P. Taft, president and CEO of Preferred Mutual Ins. Co., New Berlin, N.Y., has been elected chairman of the American Association of Insurance Services (AAIS). He succeeds Jack M. Rader, executive vice president and COO of Farmers Alliance Companies, McPherson, Kan., who remains an AAIS board member.

In addition, Herman Bontrager, president and CEO of Goodville Mutual Casualty Co., New Holland, Pa., was elected a member of the AAIS board. The other AAIS board members are: Edward T, Berg, president and CEO of Pharmacists Mutual Ins. Co., Algona, Iowa; R. Douglas Haines, president and CEO of Buckeye Insurance Group, Piqua, Ohio; Stuart C. Henderson, president and CEO of Western National Insurance Group, Edina, Minn.; Judy S. Jackson, a director of NLC Insurance Companies, Norwich, Conn.; Jeffrey B. Kusch, president and CEO of Austin Mutual Ins. Co., Maple Grove, Minn.; and Paul Baiocchi, president and CEO of AAIS.

Aon Risk Solutions has appointed Christopher Baudouin as chief executive officer of the Aon Global Client Network. Most recently, Baudouin served in a dual capacity as president and CEO of Aon Risk Solutions Mexico and chief operating officer of Aon Risk Solutions in Latin America.
